AFTER FOUR is about the point when a group becomes a table. It is the moment when everyone has arrived, the room settles and an ordinary evening begins to feel shared.
For us, the name holds two ideas at once: the fourth seat that completes an American Mah Jongg table, and the hours after four, when the day slows down and people have more time for one another.
The fourth chair
American Mah Jongg is played by four, and that last occupied seat changes the room. What was still a plan a minute ago becomes a real table. Everyone has arrived; the game can begin.
That feeling sits at the center of our name. The fourth chair is not only a place to sit. It marks the moment the evening becomes something shared.
The hours after four
The name also points to a time of day. It is the stretch after work, after errands and after the rest of the day has had its say. It is when dinner lingers, game night takes shape and there is finally room for conversation and another hand.
Those are the hours we build for. Not the rushed part of the day, but the part that feels open enough for conversation, routine and another hand at the table.
One more hand
Almost every good game night reaches the same moment: someone asks for one more hand. No one needs to stay, but no one is quite ready to leave either.
That familiar choice says a lot about what we value. AFTER FOUR is built around the pieces that help people gather, but also around the feeling of wanting to remain at the table a little longer.
That is the story behind AFTER FOUR. We care about the tiles, the table and every detail around the game. But what matters most is what they make room for: time together, familiar rituals and evenings people want to return to.
